Project EDI: Cultural Mapping of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at a Kamloops Secondary School
Cultural mapping provides a localized approach to equity, diversity, and inclusion, rooted in evidence-based research, capturing the EDI landscape visually in writing and in conversation at a local high school with students, teachers, staff and administrators. The mapping makes individual experiences visible and public, keeping them local and inclusive. This seminar was great to listen to as it relates to teaching and school community as a whole. It gave insights into how students and teachers feel in each space at this particular school. Being able to identify where and why students feel excluded can let us, as teachers, figure out ways to make those spaces more inclusive, therefore creating an inclusive environment.
From the Trenches: Championing Change with Dr. Imogene Lim
From the Trenches: Championing Change with Dr. Imogene Lim was a conference about the history of Dr. Lim’s mother and the experience of many Chinese Canadians. We explored racism and other. The value of the conference was in these topics as the a prevalent within a school. The more knowledge and understanding of these topics the more I can relay these topics to students so they can begin to comprehend. It enriches curriculum with often overlooked perspectives while fostering empathy and empowering students by understanding the many contributions of Chinese Canadians.
