Biography
My name is Jordan Blaschek. I am a 27 year old Teacher Candidate based out of Kamloops, British Columbia. I have worked extensively with people with diverse abilities including work in a Life Skills Room at a local high school, and work with Pivot Point Family Growth Centre which focuses on children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).
Teaching Philosophy
“A good teacher does not draw out; he gives out, and what he gives out is love. And by love I mean approval, or if you like, friendliness, good nature. The good teacher not only understands the child: he approves of the child”, A. S. Niell (The Problem Teacher 1939, p. 11.).
This quote emphasizes the importance of loving and nurturing relationships between a student and teacher. It also highlights the importance of understanding and approving of each child individually, to nurture their emotional and social well-being. I believe we need to focus on Maslow’s needs before we tackle Blooms.
One way I will implement my philosophy is through fostering a positive, inclusive environment. I will do my best to start each day with genuine enthusiasm, greeting each student warmly, and acknowledging their individual strengths. By doing this I hope to create a sense of approval, appreciation and acceptance, creating a classroom where each student feels valued by me but also by each other.
I will actively give out constructive feedback but fuse it with encouragement to acknowledge their strengths. Rather than merely pointing out areas of improvement, I will reinforce the areas they excel in to support their confidence but to also help them hone their abilities. My belief is by offering this affirming support I will nurture a love for school and learning.
By giving out love and appreciation to each student they will hopefully be excited to come to school everyday and that is the most important part of being a teacher. I aim to uplift my students by creating a safe, inclusive space by bringing in diverse voices into my classroom so all students feel represented, by focusing on collaboration and positive feedback to build a kind, loving community.
